A few thoughts on the latest episode of Star Trek: Picard

After watching this week’s episode of Star Trek: Picard (season 3. episode 5, “Imposters”), I started thinking about one scene near the end of the episode. So I decided to share some random thoughts I started having. I’m putting them under a cut to avoid anyone becoming accidentally spoiled.

Before I get into those thoughts, I’d like to make a brief comment about episode 4, “No Win Scenario”.

OMG CHANGELINGS! The DS9 fangirl in me was excited to see their return.

Now, returning to episode 5. When I saw a description of the episode before it aired, that a former crewmember would return, I had only one thought: Ro Laren. And when she appeared in the episode, I was SO EXCITED. Since I model my online self as a Bajoran, I’m always happy when they appear. But Ro, she’s iconic. The two appearances of the season I love most so far are Changelings and Ro.

But then, she sacrificed herself at the end. That made me sad, because that means she’d never appear again. Or is that really true?

After pondering that scene, and having a mixture of wishful thinking and theorizing, my mind starting going in various directions at once. It would be difficult to put them all down here, but I’ll share a few what ifs.

Maybe Commander Ro isn’t really dead. But how would she escape? Beaming out, of course. I think she was beamed out by an outside party. Perhaps by someone on the Intrepid without the rest of the crew knowing, and now she’s hiding on the ship. But that’s probably not very likely.

More likely, she was beamed out by a cloaked Section 31 ship. She was working for Starfleet Intelligence. Or maybe she was really working for Section 31. And who might be captain of this ship? Perhaps Georgiou. We probably assumed she returned to the 23rd Century, but perhaps she returned to the 25th. What if Georgiou and Ro will both star in the potential Section 31 series? That would be AWESOME.

Or maybe the ship wasn’t captained by Georgiou. Perhaps she returned to the 23rd century after all. And the S31 series (at least the first season) will take place in both centuries. Georgiou in the 23rd and Ro in the 25th. I have various theories of how that season could play out, but maybe I’ll write about that another time.

I’m probably way off base on my theories. Perhaps Commander Ro is really dead. But I hope not. Of course, my theory uses an often-used trope, where a character seems to die but returns again in a future episode.

Wow, there are quite a few uses of “perhaps” in this post. I really do need to work on my writing again. But for now, here is where I’ll end. Live long and prosper.
